Confirmation of
line of sight
 |
A clear transmission
path must exist between the two link nodes of any
microwave radio link. Furthermore, as the radio wave
disperses as it moves away from the source, there must
exist additional clearance over any obstructions to
prevent attenuation of the transmitted signal. This
additional clearance, known as the Fresnel zone, differs
for the frequency band of the radio path, where higher
frequency translates into a smaller clearance
requirement see Figure 3
Line of sight between two sites can be confirmed via
either map-based studies or direct survey. In either
event, the surveyor must allow for future obstructions
that may impinge the radio path. These can be due to
various causes, such as new buildings, tree growth,
cranes, etc |
